The WANADA show is the annual show at the Washington Convention Center for showing off the new cars. Our club usually has a large display in the show each year. We use this show as a way of advertising our club to the Washington area public. There are pictures from previous shows in the Photo Gallery of this web site.

He would have to sell all the Mustangs to get an original Cobra. Heck - who want to insure a million dollar car anyway - you would be too afraid to drive it. That wants makes nice Ford powered kits (fiberglass) and not aluminum so practical. I would still like to have a roof though or some really stiff roll bars.

Having a Cobra replica is great fun. Unlike a vintage Mustang, you don't have to pamper your Cobra, it can easily be replaced if you wreck it. Just be aware that since they are short on safety features, personal survival should be your primary concern.
In the Cobra Club, there are no shows, just road trips and racing. The closest we get to a show is when a group of us are parked at a restaurant while on a road trip.
http://www.ncrmc.org/photopost/data/500/medium/Cobras_in_Rehoboth.JPG
In the Cobra Club, points are not deducted for rock chips, mud on the fenders, or high miles. In fact, patina is admired on Cobras.
By the way Tony, it is a Windsor, but it is 427CI

Val,
But as you can see in the photo they just don't look right with a top. I know it allows for more comfortable rides in the winter, but it doesn't do anything for the looks.

Some of us don't worry too much about rock chips and patina...of course if I could get it finished I could put rock chips on it ...LOL.
Build'em to drive...unless its really rare...then you gotta have two.

I never cared for the looks of the cars when the top was on, but now that I've been using it with the top up I sort of like the look.
http://www.ncrmc.org/photopost/data/500/medium/IMGP2115.JPG
My wife loves the top, maybe not for the looks, but it sure is nice to drive with the heater on and the wind not blowing on you on those cold sunny days. Many of the cars in the Cobra Club don't have tops or heaters and therefore are not driven much when it gets cold. One exception is New Years Day, when the club does a driving tour of the DC monuments. I was informed recently that no tops are allowed on the "Frost Bite Cruise". I think that rule was made up by people who don't have tops.
P.S. the people who had their tops up in the Rehoboth gathering photo above were very smart. When the sun went down, the dew set in, and those of us who didn't put up their tops were greeted with wet seats and dew on the inside of the windscreen, which made for a very unpleasant ride back to the hotel.

Those tops look very much like the old "bow type" tops on my early 60's Austin Healey. The bows folded up into a small bag and the top went in the trunk rolled up like a sleeping bag. They were upright compared to the permanent tops on later MG's, funtional (sort of), and very British....I kinda like the look myself.

Everyone,
This morning when I went to the (http://www.washingtonautoshow.com/) web site for the WANADA show, on the main page was our club display from a few years ago. It is the lead-in picture to a video for the DC Auto Show. In the video there are brief glimpes of last years display with the FORD GT and Saleen S-7.

With my car slightly (right!) apart for about the last month, I am going to need some slightly warmer weather to get it out of the garage to clean off some of the mess; then back into the garage for reassembly; I am on the fence about being ready for the show, but will give it a good effort.

Any weather report that far out is just an educated guess. Right now (1/18@1200) on weather.com, it says cloudy with a 20% chance of rain for Sunday (but raining on Friday and Monday). I'm sure by tomorrow that will change as well.

If your car is supercharged, according to Keene Bell, if you get below 1/4 tank of fuel, harm could be done the the fuel pump and supercharger. We'll have to cheat a bit with the fuel going into the car show. The checking last year was bad at best. I think I pointed to the amps guage and that was good enough for the security people.
And, don't run out and buy the blue painters tape, I have enough for everyone.

Actually since the 2005-current Mustangs use the fuel to cool the pump and have a no-loss (non-recirculating) fuel system, its not recommended to run any of them with less than 1/4 tank of gas for long periods of time.
atlanticbluestang
01-21-2010, 01:50 PM
I have been is indoor shows where the fire marshall wanted full fuel tanks. The reason for a full fuel tank was that there where little to no gas vapors which was the explosive component to the the gasoline. The fire marshall at the convention center has the opposite thoughts. Very confusing.
Here is what is on the Washington Auto Show about fuel, etc
⇒ All fuel in tanks must NOT EXCEED ¼-tank or five (5) gallons, whichever is less.
⇒ All vehicle batteries must be disconnected and cable ends must be taped.
⇒ All vehicles must have locking gas caps or gas caps sealed with tape.
⇒ All exit doors and fire safety equipment must not be blocked or obstructed.

I spoke with one of the people at the convention center and they put up another length of curtains between "DC Lottery" and our display. I took the extra stand an replaced the stand that was taped to hold the railing. I don't think we will need any extra fiencing. They were still setting up displays today. The FORD display is going to look great, once they put everything together. The exotic and high dollar cars are going next to us on "C" hall. The guy said that they will leave a walk-way between the displays.

We made it in to the show this morning. The club's display looked great and it was nice to go at a time that wasn't crowded. We talked to Lynn for a quite a bit and he invited my son to sit in his car. We got some fun pics of him in it and pretending to check the oil. It was fun. I went out this morning to run some errands with plow attached to the F150 and about 800 extra pounds in the bed and had no problems; taking it very easy. WTOP was right saying stay at home as many cars around me almost hit me during my venture. This being said, I am still debating tomorrow as I must work from 6:30 AM to 3 PM: and my trailer may not be accessible if the snow get too deep as it is now off in the grass. Maybe I'll hook it up today and practice for tomorrow as I have never towed in the snow either; and I am certain that when we leave the roads won't be in good shape. Wish they's allow us to stay an extra day. Good luck to all, and be careful out there.

Well I have driven in the snow my whole life and usually find it enjoyable believe it or not. BUT TODAY was WAY DIFFERENT...my little BMW 328i Convertible is not made for winter driving....especially with no additional weight in it. I had successfully navigated Twinbrook Parkway, Braddock Road, 495, 66, and Nutley but then I turned onto Tapawingo ...and the combination of gumball tires, a slight uphill grade, and ice did me in. The car just slowed to a stop, drifted left and slid back down the hill. I had to get 3 teenagers (my son and his friends) to push me up the hill...I had them climb in and away we went. Its amazing what 500 pounds of teenager over the rear axle will do for traction....

This was great, I didn't want the flat bed to wait so I called when Rex showed up with his truck to load the fence. At 8:30 I was outside and waited until 9:15 and called the flat bed again. The good thing is 1 entire box of applications were asked for by visitors once we took them off the top of the table. If we get a third of them back the show would have been a success I think.

Sorry hear that you had to wait that long for the truck. I took it easy going out NY Avenue. Only hit one spot where the road was wet. Just a small amount of spray. New York Avenue and Route 50 were dry. Dusty from salt but dry.
Once I got onto my street there were still places where there was packed snow on the street. I took it easy and had the wife open the garage door so that wouldn't have to wait for the door to open. The sun had melted the snow in the driveway. I think the car did fairly well considering the conditions.
I was home by 8:15.

I just posted some photos from the show. I think I got at least one pic of everyone's car. I really enjoyed hanging out with fellow club members during the show. I decided to ditch the roll-back at the last minute and drove home. My trip went well, with minimal road smooge accumulated. I'm power washing the undercarriage and wheel wells tonight. I hope everyone else did OK as well.

Like the rest of you, it was definately a challenge getting out and getting home. Sure, I had the trailer, but it is never that easy climbing in and out of the drivers window and carefully strapping the wheels in place: not to mention having to get everything out of DC and back to Rockville. I unloaded the car this evening after work, and after sanding down the driveway, got it into the garage. It's been a tough week, yet the crowds always seem to enjoy all of our cars; so it's worth it.

I actually didn't get mine home until this afternoon. I got with a 1/4 mile of the house and the residential streets hadn't been plowed so it was a no-go. THe car spent the night at my Mother's house in Dumphries in her garage. Went by after work today and brought the car home. A little dirty, but nothing that won't wash off.

Thought you might like to see a couple of pics we took of my son at the auto show on Friday morning. The whole show was a lot of fun.

Why didn't we think of doing a video??
Imagine if the show was the 1st week of February. We would have had zero cars.
