I'm patching some rusted out metal in the trunk of my '66 mustang. The surface of the metal that faces the street was covered with a tarry, rough black material. They called it "undercoat" when I was a kid, and everyone (including my Mom, the original owner) had their car undercoated. It was intended to resist rust, but I noticed when I scraped it off in the rusty areas, the metal underneath was covered with surface rust. When I finish my repair, should I coat the street surface with undercoat again, or roofers cement, or just paint?

Hey Dick,
If you come to the Sheehy Show Sunday, look me up. I'll be there with my 64.5 Poppy Red cvt. I just finished a very long and detailed reply about the undercoating, and my experiences with rust prevention, only to have lost it all due to a signal loss on my laptop.
Hope to see you there.:D

Dear Ken,
Sorry I couldn't make it to the show and shine. I was out of town for the weekend. If you would rather just call me instead of rewriting a long e-mail, just request my cell number and I will send it to you. Thanks again for your interest.
