Hi, I just bought a 66 coupe (289 V8) that I like a lot.
It's a presentable driver, nothing fancy, and needs a little mechanical TLC here and there. I just had it tuned and put new front brakes on and it runs/drives nicely.
It does, however, need a few odds and ends (heater core, a few leaks fixed, probably some carb work at some point. Definitely this is not some kind of restoration - I'm driving the car as is with all it's aesthetic character flaws intact.
I live on Capitol Hill in DC. Preferably the shop would be somewhere not too far out - e.g. Hyattsville, Bladensburg, maybe Montgomery County, Arlington, Vienna, something like that.
Any leads are appreciated. Thanks!!

I used a guy in the Severn, MD area (south of BWI) awhile ago, seemed very knowledgeable and a straight shooter, don’t know if that is too far for you but I can PM his number if you want??

Give them a call at 301-937-5648. I have not been there in ages but I guess if they are still in business they must be ok. You can also try Pony & Corral in Oxon Hill MD @ 301-839-6666.

Those are great leads! thanks all. I will check them out for sure. Still interested in other leads for additional folks reading this. I'm going to call around, visit these shops in person and do some comparison shopping.
The folks I used in Arlington (Arlington Auto Care on Wilson Blvd) were competent and fast, but it was spendy.
Speaking of which, what's a rough ballpark estimate of labor charges for a reputable shop when working on these old cars? I'm hoping to find someone who might do the bigger stuf by the job (vs. hourly), but most want the hourly rate of course when working on the small stuff.
Besides CJ Mustang, what are good places for parts locally with four or five hours' driving time?

If you are a member of the NCRMC, (I checked and you are a club member), you should have received a membeship card. If you did not receive a membership card then you should contact Jennifer Ackelson, the clubs Membership Chair and New member Ambassador, to check on the status of your NCRMC membership card. Here is her e-mail address: acknasc@aol.com.

Pony and Corral is a good local source for new and used parts, and they offer the 10% NCRMC member discount for in stock parts. For mail order, I like Virginia Classic Mustang. If you order by 10AM you will probably have it the next afternoon. They have online ordering at www.virginiaclassicmustang.com, but its best to have a catalog in hand for part numbers rather than using the clunky online catalog.
